Unfortunately, it is the case that there are many devices that do not report their power consumption in the Home Assistant. It can be light bulbs, LED strips, or other devices.
Since these do not emit electricity consumption, it is difficult to know what uses electricity most. Is it the light in the bathroom, or are the lights outside?
Fortunately, a solution has been created for this, PowerCalc
PowerCalc estimates the power consumption based on brightness, color temperature, etc.
It is also possible to group several lights into e.g. one room so you can see the electricity consumption per room.
Fortunately, the installation is very simple. If you have HACS installed, you simply search for PowerCalc and select download. After you have downloaded PowerCal, you must restart HA. Next, you need to add a line to your configuration.yaml file.powercalc:
Then restart HA one more time.
After HomeAssistant has started again, new energy sensors will appear on all devices that are supported. Here is a list of all that is supported.
To create groups of sensors, go to “Settings” -> “Devices & Services” -> “Add integration” -> “Powercalc”.
Select “Group”.
First, you have to create a name for the group.
You must then enter a unique ID. I use https://www.uuidgenerator.net/ to generate a unique ID.
Then you choose which sensors should be included in the group.
Once you have created the group, you can go to the Energy dashboard and add them here. So now you suddenly have a little better control over what uses electricity.
