With the release of Home Assistant 2022.3, there is a new integration for WIZ. Now it is very simple to add a WiZ light to your Home Assistant. I have only tested this with light bulbs, but it should work with sockets and other sensors as well.

Note: The first configuration has to be done with the WiZ app on your phone. You need to assign a new IP address to the device, and I recommend that you reserve this IP address in the DHCP scope so it does not change.

If you have some WiZ lights on the same network as your Home Assistant, the auto-discovery will find all your lights/devices. Simple as that.

Note – you need to enable local communication on the WiZ app first. This can be done under settings -> Security Settings and “allow local communication” in the Wiz app on your phone.

You could also add a WiZ integration manually (steps copied from the HA documentation):

  • Browse to your Home Assistant instance.
  • In the sidebar click on  Configuration.
  • From the configuration menu select:  Integrations.
  • In the bottom right, click on the  Add Integration button.
  • From the list, search and select “WiZ”.
  • Follow the instruction on screen to complete the set up.

When you have set up a WiZ bulb, you now can control this directly from Home Assistant local. It is possible to control color, temperature, brightness, and effects.

Note 2: You can now safely remove the custom integration for WiZ
