When the temperature increases in the freezer or refrigerator, so it’s okay to get information about this. Then you can potentially save some food.
We have installed a Agar temperature, humidity and pressure sensor in all refrigerators and freezers we have at home. These sensors give us continuous status on temperature and humidity, so if the temperature rises we see it immediately.
Now it is not the case that we can continuously sit and look at how cold / hot it is in the freezer / fridge at any given time. So in Home Assistant we have added an automation. This will notify us if the temperature exceeds a certain level.
The notification is sent to our mobile phone, and we receive information about which refrigerator or freezer this applies to. The warning also contains the temperature in the fridge / freezer right now.
The automation
The trigger is the temperature. If the temperature exceeds X degrees, the automation must be performed.
We have added that if the temperature in the refrigerator exceeds 6 degrees for more than 5 minutes then the automation starts.
5 minutes delay reduces the chance of false messages
When the temperature exceeds 6 degrees, a message is sent to the mobile phone. In the message, so we have placed the value of the temperature sensor, so that we see how hot it is right now.Sjekk kjøleskapet på kjøkkenet. Temperaturen er {{states.sensor.temperature_56.state}}°C nå!
Hi Lars, how long battery life do you get when then sensor is placed in a freezer ( like -18 deg Celsius ) ?
Hi,
It varies greatly from battery manufacturer to battery manufacturer. See e.g. batteries from IKEA last 1-4 months, while batteries from e.g. Energizer or Duracell have lasted 10-12 months.
