With Home Assistant version 2020.12 came Blueprints.
Blueprints is an automation that is pre-made and can be shared with other people. All you need to do when using a Blueprint is enter which sensors/devices/units are to be used, the rest is usually done.
This week’s automation tip is to get a notification when it starts to get a low battery in a device in the smart house.
The first thing you need to do is import the automation into Home Assistant. You do this by pressing the button below.
Then press “create automation”, and enter the values you want.
Now we have to configure the thresholds we need.
The first value is what percentage the battery should have before the smart home sends you one notification. Default then this stands at 20%
Then you choose when the time of day the test is to be carried out, and then which day it is to be carried out. If you set it to day 0, the smart house checks the battery on the devices every day.
If you have devices you do not want to be included in the check, add them under the “exclude” list.
Finally, you need to choose where to get notified. Select the device (mobile) and what the text should contain. Note – remember to add {{sensors}} to the message, otherwise you will not know which sensors have a low battery.
You can select one or more to get information about low batteries. You also do not need to send a message to your mobile. Set it up to create a “Persistent Notification”, and you will then receive a notification in Home Assistant about which devices have a low battery.
